EDU - 402.1 - School Internship Phase II - Week 7 (22/07/24 - 26/07/24)
Week 7 (22/07/24 - 26/07/24)
"It's the teacher that makes the difference, not the classroom"
- Michael Morpurgo
There were 5 working days. I completed the chapter 'Equations of motion' in 9A and started 'Laws of motion' in 9A. I completed the chapter 'Basic constituents of matter' in 8A and started 'Chemical changes' in 8A. I used ICT to teach position time graph in 9A. It was very easy to teach graphs by showing pictures of graphs through ppt slides. Diagnostic test was administered on 24-07-24. Students lacked clarity in the concept of refraction and total internal reflection. They struggled to identify rarer and denser examples. Remedial teaching was provided to them on the next day using ICT. Through phet simulations concepts were taught. Our concerned teacher Mary Ann evaluated my classes and gave 94/100.
On 22-07-24 a quiz on the occasion of 'Moon Day' was conducted. Anet and me along with our concerned teacher Mary Ann conducted the quiz for U.P as well as H.S section. On 23-07-24, our school organized eye testing campaign. All the students of the school participated in the campaign. On 25-07-24 PTA meeting was arranged in our school. We were asked to manage classes. I conducted some innovative games to improve their concentration. On that day I took innovative lesson in class 8A.
On 22-07-24 our class teacher, Dr. Sumy M Scaria came to observe our classes. She observed my class in 9A,during the 6th period, where I taught 'Balanced and Unbalanced Forces'. I used PPTs, activity cards and charts to teach the topic. I gave direct first hand experiences as live experiments using table and chair were carried out by students. It was really interesting for the students. I faced time management issue as I couldn't ask review questions and give follow up activity. Students were little talkative yet I managed the class. Our teacher had a good impression on my class. She told that classes were really engaging and interactive. It was a good experience in total.
On 23-07-24 our teacher dealing with general paper , Dr. Nancy J Fernandez came to observe our class. I taught 'Physical change and chemical change' in class 8A during the 5th period. I used PPTs, charts, activity cards, videos and blackboard to teach the topic. I showed them directly fresh and dry leaves to teach the concept of chemical changes. Students did the activity very well. They were attentive and they answered to the questions as well. Nancy miss gave a positive feedback. She told that class was nice and smooth. She suggested me that I could have explained more about the indicator phenolphthalein. Overall it was good. In this class, I used ICT as well as charts. I also provided first hand experiences to students.
On 26-07-24 we bid farewell to our school as teaching practice phase II concluded on that day. As usual we signed the register in the morning and carried on with our classes. I had classes in 9A and 8A. I asked students to write their feedbacks of me. I received gifts from students. After serving lunch we signed the register. We distributed sweets to students and teachers. We took photographs. Headmistress adviced us to be punctual and also to manage classes very well for effective teaching. In the evening 3.30 pm we left the school and went to our homes.
I have no words to say about this phase of teaching practice. I really loved it. I tried to improve the mistakes that I made in the first phase in the second phase. New methods of teaching were implemented. All the memories and experiences that I gained during this period will be cherished forever.
